Increase in emergency SNAP benefits continues in June
SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – Most Oregonians who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive emergency stipends in June.
The federal government has approved emergency benefits every month since March 2020. This gives SNAP recipients additional support during the COVID-19 pandemic. These emergency benefits are temporary support that Oregon may provide due to the federal COVID-19 public health emergency.
Since the federal government has approved these emergency benefits for June, Oregon will be able to issue them in July as well. However, emergency benefits are expected to end when the federal public health emergency ends.
In June, about 411,000 SNAP households will receive about $66 million in additional food benefits on top of their regular SNAP benefits.
“We know that many are relying on these additional emergency food benefits to get enough healthy food for themselves and their families,” said Claire Seguin, assistant director of self-sufficiency programs for the Department of Social Services at the OHSS. Oregon (ODHS). “We also know that many Oregonians are still struggling to meet their basic needs and we encourage them to reach out to our partners at 211 and the Oregon Food Bank for assistance during this time. difficult.”
Current SNAP households will receive emergency allocations on June 11. Emergency benefits will be issued on June 30 or July 2 for households that did not receive benefits in the first monthly issue.
SNAP recipients do not need to do anything to receive these additional benefits as they will be issued directly to their EBT cards.
