Four free agent point guards the Hornets could sign

Which free agents could the Hornets target to fill their backup point guard role?

After the conclusion of the summer league, the Charlotte Hornets still have a hole in their roster. This hole is the backup leader position.

The only real point guards on the roster right now are LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier. Both Ball and Rozier are in the starting lineup based on last season and will most likely continue to start.

If the team played a game today, the Hornets could use Cody Martin or James Bouknight as backup point guards. Martin and Bouknight are not long-term fixes for this role and would not individually benefit from being used in this way.

Like most of the NBA, the Hornets don’t have a lot of headroom, and the point guard market is pretty thin at this point. Luckily, the remaining free agent playmakers aren’t going to break the bank in terms of the salary cap. The team should consider signing or acquiring a playmaker who can come in and do a solid job leading the offense while Ball and Rozier rest.
