Birthday celebrations turn sour as 18-year-old is murdered in fight in Ludhiana

Anniversary celebrations at Samrat Colony took a tragic turn when an 18-year-old factory worker, who was allegedly murdered in a fight, broke out between two groups.

The victim, Deepak Kumar of Mohalla New Teg Bahadur Nagar of Makkar settlement, had himself turned 18 on Friday. He was visiting his former employer, a disc jockey, and had been hired by the defendant to play music at another person’s birthday parties.

Police registered a murder case against at least 23 defendants and arrested five of the defendants – Vinay Negi, Kunal, Krishan Kumar, Anil Kumar and Prince. Kunal also suffered injuries and was admitted to ESIC Hospital.

Among the defendants who have not yet been arrested are Anil Kumar, Arjun, Chhotu, Chintu, Aryan, Bablu, Kalu, Ankesh, Mani Khachhar of Daba and Vishal. Eight others have not yet been identified. The case was registered following the statement of Vijay Kumar, father of the victim.

The complainant said his son celebrated his birthday on Friday and left home to see Rajesh Kumar, his former employer.

He had been hired by Ashish Kumar of Samrat Colony to play music at the party. Meanwhile, a fight broke out during the celebrations between two groups who shared an old feud. Assuming that Deepak was part of the opposing group, the members attacked him with a sword.

The complainant added that he rushed to the scene after hearing about the incident. The victim was rushed to hospital. Doctors, however, referred him to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Inspector Amandeep Singh, Station Chief at Sanhewal Police Station, said a murder case had been filed against the accused. A hunt is on for the rest of the defendants.

The eldest of three siblings, the victim was a school dropout. He was working with Rajesh Kumar, but for three months he had been working in a local factory.

Woman detained for attacking bank officer demanding loan repayment


Police arrested a woman for an alleged offer to kill a private bank debt collector who came to the defendant’s home to collect payment for unpaid mortgage installments.

The accused, Aman Goyal, is a resident of Banda Bsahadur Colony, Tibba. Her husband Pawan Kumar Goyal and aide Dinesh Kumar, who were allegedly involved in the crime, are on the run.

The complaint was made following the statement of Raj Kumar, 42, from the village of Phullanwal, a debt collector with the first bank IDFC. He said the defendant had been granted a home loan from the bank but stopped paying the installments despite visiting them several times to request payment.

On Friday, the plaintiff and bank manager Manjit Kumar visited the defendants, who allegedly abused them before attacking them with sharp weapons. The accused then fled.

Assistant Deputy Inspector Amrik Chand, who is investigating the case, said an FIR was filed against the accused at Tibba Police Station.
